Comet McNaught 2007 observations Fri Jan 19 1835 MST (Jan 20 0135 UTC) Observing from the Nederland area I saw two of the striae in the outermost portions of the tail naked eye. They extended about 10-15 degrees above the horizon. Four or so were visible in 10x50 binoculars. Mon Jan 15 1215 MST (1915 UTC) Saw comet just after noon in 10x50 binocs, perhaps magnitude -4 or -5 still. Somewhat challenging with a slight haze brightening up the aureole around the sun. Comet was to the lower left of the sun. Short length of broad tail was visible. Observing from Boulder. Sat Jan 13 1640 MST (2340 UTC) Saw comet in 10x50 binocs after the sun set behind a cloud bank and the mountains. The sun was still above the horizon however with sunset about 1700. The comet went in and out of the clouds for about 15 minutes and I had a naked eye sighting about 1641. Tail was short and broad compared with before and it pointed to the upper left (about the 11 o'clock position). Observing from Gunbarrel. Magnitude was -4 or possibly -5. Wed Jan 10 1702 MST (Jan 11 0002 UTC) Saw comet from Univ of Denver in 10x50 binoculars over the next 10 minutes or so depending on clouds and such. Tue Jan 9 1712-1727 MST (Jan 10 0012-0027 UTC) Saw comet from Gunbarrel. Nice view in clear (if a bit hazy) skies. Visible both in 10x50 binocs and naked eye. About 1 degree of narrow tail pointing to upper right, setting after the comet behind the mountains 3 degrees high. Sun Jan 7 17h MST (Jan 8 00 UTC) Saw comet from Gunbarrel between cloud layers for about 6 minutes Sat Jan 6 (1715 MST) (Jan 7 0015 UTC) Looked for comet from Longmont and it wasn't visible due to clouds.
